Plan-to-Provision for Fixed Broadband solution accelerates Bell Aliant FTTH rollout to 650,000 homes

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and Bell Aliant received a Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award 2012 in the Fixed Network Infrastructure Innovation category at the awards ceremony in London on Tuesday evening, recognizing Ericsson’s successful work with Bell Aliant. Bell Aliant is the first service provider in Canada to deploy FTTH (fibre-to-the-home) technology across an entire city and bring a 100 per cent fibre optic network directly to customers’ homes.

This award recognizes Ericsson’s Plan-to-Provision for Fixed Broadband solution that Bell Aliant began to use in 2010. Deploying this solution allowed Bell Aliant to accelerate its FTTH rollout in 2011 to 320,000 premises with the goal of reaching 650,000 homes by the end of 2012. Bell Aliant used the company’s Geospatial Inventory solution to completely automate the network-design process, significantly improving the availability, quality, and use of network data that enables engineers to work faster and more efficiently. As of March 2012, the network has reached more than 516,000 homes.
