Sony announced the RGBW matrix for smartphones with the HDR video

Sony has announced that it is developing two brand new photographic solutions for mobile devices. These are matrices with 8 and 13 Megapixels with recording HDR video. Both sensors are used so-called RGBW matrix, in which besides the standard red, green and blue pixels is also white. As a result, it is possible to improve the sensitivity and, consequently, the quality of images in low light conditions. Representatives from Sony say that was previously thought that adding a white pixel leads to a degradation of picture quality, but now with new algorithms for this disadvantage was overcome. As a result of RGBW matrix was possible to introduce HDR video in mobile devices. As a result, this device is able to provide video recording in difficult conditions, for example, in contrasting light conditions. In the production of new sensors for cameras arrive later this year. The first samples of the matrix with 8-megapixel and diagonal 1 / 4 inch will be available in March, but neither will support HDR video. In June there will be a 13-megapixel 1/3.06 matrix with diagonal inches and supports HDR video. This language is 8-megapixel sensor 1 / 4 inches with support for HDR - their first models will be released in August.
