Ericsson has been chosen as the supplier of Oi’s new 4G/LTE network in Brazil
Network evolution enhances the experience of using mobile-broadband services for subscribers
The agreement reaffirms Ericsson’s leadership in LTE and constitutes the company’s third 4G/LTE win in Brazil
Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) is set to expand its presence in the Brazilian market after being chosen by Oi to provide a 4G/LTE network, which will feature Ericsson’s latest RBS 6000 multi-standard radio base stations. Under the terms of the agreement, Ericsson is also responsible for network implementation, including network rollout, design and support services.
This new partnership with Ericsson will allow Oi to further enhance the user experience with the introduction of a new quality of mobile-broadband services.
Sergio Quiroga Da Cunha, Head of Region Latin America at Ericsson, says: "This deal reaffirms Ericsson's leadership in LTE and further extends our relationship with Oi. With this agreement, we will continue to support Oi’s network development to offer their customers a differentiated service and a great experience using mobile broadband."
LTE, the next generation of mobile communication technology, enables fast, efficient and cost-effective transfer of large volumes of data, optimizing frequency spectrum usage. With higher speeds and lower latency, consumers can enjoy a wide range of applications (real-time web, online gaming, social-media collaboration and video conferencing) with less effort and more mobility. LTE will meet the needs of new and enhanced mobile-internet applications of the future.
Ericsson has now signed more than 90 LTE/EPC (Evolved Packet Core) contracts globally.
