Huawei's Broader Way Forum focuses on the social economy benefits of national broadband networks
Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, announced it will be engaged at ITU Telecom World 2012 in Dubai in a number of different capacities. In addition to its role as a platinum sponsor of the event, Huawei will co-sponsor a Broader Way Forum on the socioeconomic benefits of national broadband networks (NBN). Huawei will also participate in two panels: "eHealth in the 21st Century: Transformation and Collaboration"and "Networks with a Human Face."
Huawei has held a number of Broader Way Forums around the world that have been centered on various industry themes and concepts, including the role of broadband in economic development, the digital divide, as well as the importance of broadband development, network security, LTE technology, and innovation.
At ITU Telecom World 2012, Huawei will partner with ITU organizers to hold a Broader Way Forum on October 14, discussing how to enhance the socio-economic benefits of NBN. The Forum will be hosted by Mr. Nigel Pugh, Telco Consulting Practice Head of Ovum, with speakers including Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Communications of Republic of Ghana, and Mr. Houlin Zhao, Deputy Secretary General of ITU.
In anticipation of the Forum, Paul Michael Scanlan, Huawei's Vice President of Solution Sales and Marketing, and Huawei's panelist for the Broader Way Forum, said: "Huawei's involvement in eight of the nine global national broadband networks demonstrates how we apply innovation to ensure that profitable and sustainable benefits are realized by the operators of these networks. Huawei's unique blending of 'go-to-market' cost effective network design, extensive knowledge transfer program and rapid implementation has proven to be an ideal recipe for national broadband network ecosystems."
As NBN becomes more affordable and ubiquitous, its importance to networks such as transport, water, and power, as well as to overall socio-economic prosperity, becomes increasingly pronounced. With NBN now a vital part of the socio-economic fabric, it is expected to play a central role in addressing today's most challenging global issues, including poverty, economic recession, unemployment, illiteracy, productivity, and public service delivery. However, due to varying degrees of broadband penetration across different countries and regions, the projected socio-economic benefits are not uniform in scope or scale.
In response to this, Huawei's Broader Way Forum at ITU Telecom World 2012 will bring together industry leaders from regulatory agencies and operators to generate dialogue and inspire action that seeks to improve the overall impact of NBN around the world. The Forum will identify new growth and business models that will equip the industry with the means to leverage mobile broadband so that socio-economic benefits can be achieved in both developed and developing countries.
Additionally, Huawei speakers have been invited to participate in two panels. Qing Zhao, Huawei Software Enterprise Products VP, will speak at "eHealth in the 21st Century: Transformation and Collaboration"on October 17, a discussion on new opportunities in eHealth and its application in our ever more connected world.
Sanqi Li, CTO, Carrier Network Business Group, Huawei, will speak at "Networks with a Human Face"on October 18, a discussion of the evolution of network design from technology-centric to human-centric.
