Huawei Unveils New-Generation Intelligent ONTs and Improves FTTH Interconnection and O&M Efficiency

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, unveiled the industry's first and highest-capacity 480 Gbit/s router line card at the IP Technology Gala 2012. The line card highlights Huawei's strength in the high-end router field.

Data traffic is increasing exponentially. Annual data traffic will increase seven times from 2010 to 2015, reaching 1.26x106 petabits per year in 2015. This traffic growth requires broader and more efficient service channels to ensure superior subscriber experience and reduce network O&M costs.

Huawei's 480 Gbit/s router line card enables a capacity of 15.4 Tbit/s per router and 48x10GE, 12x40GE, or 4x100GE line-rate forwarding per slot. Varied daughter cards and 10GE/40GE/100GE ports are available for flexible configurations, effectively protecting carriers' investment. Based on innovative Smart Memory and Intelligent Frequency Adjust (IFA) technologies, the third-generation programmable Solar 3.0 chips empower high performance as well as a record-low energy use of 0.71 W/g for the line card.

"The global 100G era is coming, with Internet traffic fast approaching TB level. 2012 marks the beginning of large-scale commercial deployment of 100G, and the launch of Huawei's 480G line card accelerates the development of the high-end 100G industry. It will help carriers build sustainable and efficient networks, combat the bandwidth challenges brought by cloud application proliferation, and reduce network O&M costs." said Gai Gang, President of Huawei's Carrier IP Product Line.

Huawei's IP products and solutions have successfully served top international carriers such as France Telecom, Telefonica (Spain), and SingTel (Singapore), as well as China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom. According to consultancy firm Ovum, Huawei ranked No. 2 in the global IP market as of Q2 2012.
