According to Ericsson’s second Traffic and Market Report, 85 percent of the world’s population will have internet coverage via 3G by 2017 – and there will be close to 9 billion mobile subscriptions, compared to 6 billion at the end of 2011. This growth can be attributed to people’s increasing demand for anywhere, anytime connectivity and the use of video, cloud-based services and the internet. Machine-to-machine subscriptions will also contribute to this figure.
By the end of 2017, global data traffic is expected to grow 15 times.
