Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, and UNE, the largest fixed broadband operator in Colombia, jointly announced the successful launch of the largest commercial LTE network in Latin America.
Juan Ignacio Palacio, UNE International Business VP, said: "UNE is pleased to be partnering with Huawei on this important launch of commercial LTE services in Latin America. We are committed to providing our customers with the best services, and believe that Huawei's innovative solution and rich commercial experience will enable our customers to enjoy an unparalleled mobile broadband experience."
In 2011, UNE began providing LTE mobile broadband services to sustain its market leadership and cater to the increasing demands from the local market. UNE chose Huawei as its technology partner due to the company’s rich experience in commercial LTE deployment and delivery. To address UNE’s requirements, Huawei implemented its end-to-end SingleRAN LTE/EPC solution, which is recognized by leading global operators as the ideal approach for wireless network deployment in the mobile broadband era.
For the first stage of network deployment, UNE launched commercial LTE services in Bogota and Medellin. UNE’s LTE network is now an ultra-high-speed wireless information highway that allows the Colombian people to enjoy easier access, faster data rates, better user experience and enriched multimedia services, further driving mobile broadband development in Colombia.
At the 2012 LTE World Summit in Barcelona in May, Huawei was honored with two top awards for "Most Significant Development for Commercial LTE Networks" and "Best LTE Core Network Element," which recognized Huawei's continued contributions to the development of LTE and its leading status within the industry.
