Earlier today, we’ve talked about LG’s plans to release a quad-core smartphone that will feature a 10MP+ camera, although further details about the device were pretty much inexistent.
Fortunately, after further digging, we’ve uncovered a leaked spreadsheet for an upcoming LG smartphone that seems to fit well with the previous report. Before we dive into the leaked specs, let me just say that I’m sincerely hoping for these specs to actually come true, as it looks like we are looking at the first smartphone to run circles around the Samsung Galaxy S3.
The leaked spreadsheet talks about an LG smartphone codenamed the LG-F180 and paints the picture of the fastest Android smartphone that we ever talked about. The first impressive spec is the Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 SoC, one that pairs a 1.5GHz quad-core Krait CPU with the new Adreno 320 GPU. For your reference, it should be mentioned that the US variant of the Galaxy S3 also features a Qualcomm Krait CPU, but that’s only dual-core.
While there is no way of being exactly sure how the two extra cores will improve the performance, considering that Nvidia’s Tegra 3 CPU is a quad-core processor based on the same architecture as the dual-core Tegra 2 CPU, the bump should be notable at least. The leak also mentions that the LG-F180 will feature 2GB of RAM, the new standard when it comes to high-end smartphones.
Equally attractive is the fact that the new LG flagship seems to be LTE compatible in its quad-core version. I know for sure that most of our US readers will be excited about this, considering the fact that the two most powerful Android smartphones currently available, the Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X have swapped their quad-core Cortex A9 processors with dual-core S4s in order to provide support for LTE networks without massive battery life issues. LG won’t be forced to make the same change, since the S4 Krait CPUs (Cortex A15-type) are far more energy-efficient than Cortex A9 processors and integrate LTE radio.
On to the display, Digitimes reports that the LG-F180 will feature a 5-incher, although the leaked specs only mention the resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels (most likely non-Pentile, or as LG like to market their displays, true HD).
Other leaked specs include:
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
A design inspired by the Optimus L series
13MP primary camera
NFC
802.11 a / b / g / n Wi-Fi
Bluetooth 4.0
2100mAh battery
According to the source, the LG-F180 has passed the development stage and is now tested by Korean mobile operators, and will be released as soon as Q3 2012. The phone might be a variant of the LG LS970 Eclipse we’ve heard about a while ago.
What do you guys think? Are these specs too good to come true? Will the LG-F180 be able to turn LG’s mobile business into a profitable one? Drop us a line in the comment section below and share a thought!
