SOFTBANK 's WCP and Huawei Win Global Telecom Business Innovation Award for Japan's Fastest Mobile Broadband

Leading Japanese mobile operator SOFTBANK 's Wireless City Planning Inc. (WCP) and Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, jointly won an award for wireless network infrastructure innovation today at the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards held in central London. The award was given in recognition of WCP's commercially launched AXGP network in Tokyo, Osaka and other parts of Japan. The AXGP network was deployed by Huawei using fully compatible LTE TDD technology.

WCP commenced deployment in September 2011 and was commercially ready for some parts of Tokyo and Osaka by November 2011. Huawei's technology enables downlink data speeds of 110Mb/s on the network, enabling the operator to provide end users with the highest quality data service experience available on the fastest mobile data transmission service in Japan.

For WCP's network deployment, Huawei's LTE TDD solutions provide highly innovative network architecture. The network utilizes 50 to 150 sites per square-kilometer to meet the requirements of future high-capacity mobile broadband (MBB) users in the face of limited site space.

The network deployment makes use of Huawei solutions like SFN (Single Frequency Network), 4x4 MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output), IBA (Intelligent Baseband Array)-enhancing adjustment capabilities between sites and the world's smallest and lightest Broadband RRU (Radio Remote Unit). These solutions allow the network to support 40MHz bandwidth while offering downlink data speeds of over 400Mb/s to increase site capacity up to 1.2Gbits.

By the end of May this year, WCP announced on its website that the network had accumulated more than 91,000 subscribers.

"We are so pleased to win this award together with Huawei," said Mr. Yoshioki Chika, Corporate Officer CTO, Wireless City Planning Inc. "As a strategic partnership with WCP, we are satisfied with what Huawei has accomplished for WCP. We sincerely hope both parties' further cooperation boosts the further development of the LTE TDD industry."

Mr. Deng Taihua, President of Huawei LTE TDD & WiMAX & TDS Wireless Networks, said: "We are honored to share this award with WCP. We'll continue to fulfill WCP's requirement and continue our investment in chipsets, devices and network infrastructure to enhance the whole value chain of the LTE TDD industry."
