Nvidia Announces Updated Tegra 3+ With Higher Performance, Coming Soon

Michael Rayfield, general manager of Nvidia’s mobile business unit, revealed on Thursday an updated Tegra 3+ chip slated for sometime in 2012 that promises to bring better performance to both phones and tablets. Unfortunately, Rayfield said the chip won’t have an integrated LTE modem, meaning our dream of quad-core LTE phones will be put on hold for a little while longer — at least until Nvidia’s partnership with outside chipmakers comes to fruition.

In addition to the upcoming Tegra 3+ chip, it looks as though Nvidia has plans for other next-gen Tegra chips slated to hit sometime in 2013 — information that’s been hinted at before. Once again, the codename Grey, like Wayne, is probably in reference to Nvidia’s obsession with Comic Books.

Once we have more information on Nvidia’s new Tegra 3+ chip we’ll be sure to keep you informed. Judging from the roadmap, the company has its sights firmly set on the mobile market. Hopefully something like the international HTC One X is just the tip of the iceberg.
