As is often the case in these situations, the first test photo captured by the upcoming HTC Golf is nothing special -- just a throwaway shot to put its three-megapixel camera through its paces. However, we were able to learn a bit more about this device than the EXIF data reveals.
If you were wondering about HTC's plans for the mass market after a Mobile World Congress filled with mostly high-end fare, Golf has been tipped as the company's next entry-level handset. Although it should ship with Ice Cream Sandwich already onboard, the rest of the specs should be decidedly budget-friendly: a sub-gigahertz processor, ~3.5-inch, HVGA display, and a healthy 512MB of RAM/ 4GB internal storage (complemented by a microSD slot). All the typical sensors and radios are included, with HSDPA said to clock in at 7.2Mbps. (T-Mobile's network, by comparison, is rated at 42Mbps in many areas).
Golf should arrive late in the second quarter, shipping in a rainbow of colors.
Note: In case it wasn't clear, Golf is just a codename, not final retail branding.
