Russian operator MegaFon said on the development of its project to provide wireless Internet access in public transport. The project is implemented in the Northwest, Volga, North Caucasus, Central, Ural and Far Eastern districts. In the framework of urban trolley buses, trams, buses and taxis are equipped with 3G/Wi-Fi routers that provide Internet access through 3G-network MegaFon.
Already, the passengers of public transport in Ivanovo, Cherepovets, Perm, Penza, Voronezh, Ulyanovsk, Ufa, Ryazan, Kaluga, Kursk, Vladimir, Bryansk, Nizhny Novgorod, Irkutsk, Tula, and have the ability to access the Internet through MegaFon. The leader in coverage was Irkutsk, where the telco planned to provide all municipal transport city - just 300 units, including trolley buses, trams and buses. At the same time, the volume of traffic keeps the primacy of Ivanovo, which is loaded on the trolley route of about 50 GB of data per month. In addition, in December 2011, the Metropolitan branch of the company has launched the project for free Wi-Fi zones in public places in Moscow.
