With Windows Phone as our primary smartphone platform, naturally we are also focussing our augmented reality (AR) efforts on it. Hence, we have now concluded the Nokia City Lens beta trial for Symbian and the N9.
Nokia Beta Labs followers will know that City Lens has been one of our most well received new applications. People all over the world have recognised it as an exciting way to view what’s available to see and do in their immediate surroundings and reviewers have praised its ease of use.
We truly appreciate the role the Symbian/N9 trial members have played in providing feedback on City Lens on these platforms, enabling us to learn from it and improve the application. This feedback also proved to be very helpful to us when we started working on Windows Phone, the platform on which we are dedicated to creating a third ecosystem in smartphones and the one we intend to provide the best-in class location-based experiences on. With that in mind, we have decided that we can best accelerate the popularity of City Lens through a laser focus on Windows Phone.
While we have concluded the public beta trial for City Lens on Symbian/N9, users that have downloaded the beta for Symbian and N9 are very welcome to continue using the service. Please note, however, that it does not support the latest Nokia Belle refresh. We continue to forge ahead on City Lens for Windows Phone and we believe that AR will be a critical component of the mobile future as a technology that helps users get the most out of their geographical location.
We are very grateful for your feedback, suggestions and insights and thank you for using and contributing to Nokia City Lens.
