Best Nokia Lumia apps as voted by you

We asked a question yesterday on our Facebook page. It was very simple: ‘Name your favourite Nokia Lumia app!’ The replies flooded in thick and fast – with a lot of differing and varied apps getting a mention. Let’s take a look at the top recommendations:

Photosynth

Cost: Free in the Marketplace
Availability: Everywhere
In a nutshell: Stitch your photos together to make 360° panoramas

‘A game changer’

Lots of people like to use Photosynth for the above reason, including me (here’s one I took on a recent visit to New York) and why not? It’s a great tool to take stunning photos on your Nokia Lumia. Have you made a great ‘synth’? We want to see your best efforts

Fruit Ninja

Cost: $0.99/£0.79 in the Marketplace
Availability: Everywhere
In a nutshell: Slice and dice fruit with your blade, but watch out for bombs!

Anyone who has ever played Fruit Ninja will know that once you’ve played, it’s quite hard to stop playing  Wield your blade to slice the fruit, avoid the bombs, don’t let anything drop.  If you’ve never seen it in action, Jay made a video as part of his Lumiappaday series. My name is Tom, and I’m a Fruit Ninja addict.

Whatsapp

Cost: Free in the Marketplace
Availability: Everywhere
In a nutshell: Message friends and family using WiFi

‘saves me money’

WhatsApp allows you to send free messages over WiFi, allowing you to keep in touch without using up your plan. This was mentioned as the favourite app of Ravi Boina, Shadab Mir and Rajvi George among a lot of others when the question was asked yesterday.

Evernote

Cost: Free in the Marketplace
Availability: Everywhere
In a nutshell: Remember everything

‘an extension of your brain’

Nokia Facebook fans like A-kira F-udo and Rizal Afif use Evernote to make sure they never forget anything by making it their favourite app. Notes as text, audio or images all as aide-memoires, and even the option to save where you made the reminder. Nice.

Nokia Drive

Cost: Free in the Nokia Collection
Availability: Various countries (check your Lumia)
In a nutshell: Get where you’re going

The love that Nokia Drive got in the comments on Facebook makes this the ‘most popular app’. Just a few examples:

‘very useful and proud to show it off to my friends’ – Haizeel Hashnan

‘it never gets me lost’ – Marcus Brown

‘Best free navigation ever. NOKIA DRIVE FTW!’ – Liang Yuzhao

How often do you use Nokia Drive to get you from A to B? As a side note, Ashish Shukla commented ‘Nokia Maps  ♥ they are just wow’. No wonky bridges or misplaced cities here!

Nokia City Lens

Cost: Free in the Nokia Collection
Availability: Various countries (check your Lumia)
In a nutshell: Find what’s near you right now

Nokia Facebook fan Andrzej Sotowski reckons that City Lens has been a

‘true lifesaver’

I reckon it has got him out of a scrape or two when looking for a restaurant or finding a store. Have you ever used City Lens to find somewhere to eat when you’ve been somewhere unfamiliar to you?

Nokia Music

Cost: Free in the Marketplace
Availability: Various countries (check your Lumia)
In a nutshell: All your favourite tunes in one place

Nokia Music offers everything a music lover needs to keep their ears entertained, including Nokia Mix Radio. 15 million tracks will keep you listening for over 700 years if you played them back to back (and if my maths is correct), so there’s plenty for everyone…

mix radio in particular – Lee Metodscaeft Walsh

What’s your favourite Mix?

Honourable mentions should go to those apps that were listed in many replies but didn’t make the Top Few: Snake (of course), Angry Birds, Bloomberg, and Nokia Trailers.

So that’s the Top Few as decided by the Nokia fans on Facebook. Which of these make your top 5? Do any of the ‘honourable mentions’ deserve to be bumped up the list? Let us know on Twitter, or drop your top 5 in the comments section.
