Nokia Lumia 800

Overview of Nokia Lumia 800

In early 2011, two pioneering giants of the smartphone industry announced that they would be teaming up to combine their expertise in mobile phone software and hardware technology. Microsoft and Nokia are now ready to share their debut handset with the World, the Nokia Lumia 800.

Featuring the latest version of the Windows Phone OS, 7.5 Mango, the Lumia 800 offers cutting edge smartphone features in a slender unibody design from Nokia. A 1.4GHz processor provides the power, while features such as Nokia Drive and Nokia Music complement those of the Windows Phone operating system.

Nokia is renowned for its high quality cameras and the Lumia 800 is no exception. It offers an 8MP camera with auto-focus, LED Flash and Carl Zeiss Lens. It can also record 720p video @ 30fps, which can then be played back on the 3.7" AMOLED, Clear Black, curved touch screen. Being a Windows Phone, the Lumia 800 has no microSD slot, but there is 16GB of internal memory and 25GB of free SkyDrive storage to save files to.

With the Nokia Lumia 800, there's a huge emphasis on music. The Nokia Music service offers a range of great features, including MixRadio, a free, global music streaming application that gives you access to hundreds of different channels of music. There will also be an update to allow users to create personalised channels, perhaps in a way similar to Last FM, with a catelogue of millions of tracks to choose from.

For any new smartphone, its capability to integrate social networking services (SNS) is becoming more and more important. Nokia has paid close attention to this with the Lumia in order to provide the best experience possible for users. There's one touch access for SNS, integrated communication threads and easy grouping on contacts via Nokia's new Pulse feature. With Pulse you are able to easily create and message groups of contacts to share texts, calls and even GPS location.

One of many improvements that Windows Phone brings to Nokia handsets is an enhanced web browsing experience. The Lumia 800 features Internet Explorer 9, the same browser that is used on desktop PCs. With support for HTML 5, performance is lightening fast and better than ever before on a Nokia. Of course, there's also integration with Microsoft's Zune and XBOX live services, Microsoft Office and Outlook Mobile.
