LG’S AWARD-WINNING OLED TV DEMONSTRATES THE MEANING OF “ULTIMATE DISPLAY” AT IFA 2012

World’s Largest and Slimmest OLED TV Expected to Launch by Year’s End

LG Electronics (LG) ushered in a new era of television with the unveiling of the world’s largest and slimmest 55-inch OLED TV at IFA 2012 prior to its launch before the end of the year. Recognized earlier this month by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) with a Silver International Design Excellence Award (IDEA®), this OLED TV is the culmination of years of research and development at LG, the company behind the world’s first commercialized 15-inch OLED TV three years ago. In another testament to LG’s achievement, the product was also honored with a European Display Achievement Award from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). An EISA Award is of the most prestigious awards in the home entertainment industry.

Unlike LCD or LED displays which require backlights, OLED TVs generate their own light, eliminating the need for backlighting. Thanks to the advanced external composition of LG OLED TV’s casing, the final product has a thickness of only 4mm and weighs a nominal 10kg, bringing the Paper Slim design philosophy to fruition. Integrating LG’s gorgeous CINEMA SCREEN Design with its barely visible bezel gives the OLED TV an ultra-modern, minimal profile that reduces visual distractions, helping deliver a truly immersive 3D viewing experience.

LG’s WRGB technology relies on a white sub-pixel to perfect the color output, setting LG’s OLED TV apart from conventional RGB systems. A Color Refiner enhances the image, resulting in pictures that are the most vibrant, natural and comfortable to the human eye. The screen also delivers a perfect viewing experience with Infinite Contrast from self-illuminating pixels that prevent distortion or loss of contrast regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle.

LG’s OLED TV combines the company’s industry-leading CINEMA 3D technology with Smart TV capabilities, creating the most immersive and comprehensive home entertainment experience in the market today. Premium-grade Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) gives the OLED TV its sleek form. CFRP is a high quality material mainly used in aircrafts and super cars as it is known for its superb durability and strength. CFRP is lighter and thinner than aluminum, allowing for the seamless finish befitting such a revolutionary product.

“In the history of television, there have been very few innovations as impactful as the coming of OLED TV,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “We say ’The Ultimate Display’ when describing this TV because the picture is truly above all expectations and beyond everyone’s imagination. This year, we plan to make OLED synonymous with LG.”

The TV comes with different setup options, including a versatile floor stand, a floating table stand, and a wall mount to provide customers with greater interior décor flexibility to complement any interior space.
