Huawei's 100G Networks Stretch More than Once Around the Earth


Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced that its 100G networks span over 50,000 kilometers, longer than the circumference of the Earth. Huawei's high-speed networks are interconnecting people everywhere, bringing the world into the era of 100G.
Huawei's 100G networks are serving more than 40 carriers in over 30 countries and regions across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia Pacific. These include the world's most extensive 100G network for Russia's largest fixed network carrier Rostelecom, and a pan-European 100G WDM network, the first of its kind, for leading carrier KPN (the Netherlands).
According to a recent report from consultancy firm Ovum, Huawei is leading the global wave of large-scale 100G deployment with a 39% market share. Accomplished in less than two years, this achievement can be attributed to Huawei's cutting-edge technologies and full-fledged 100G supply chain.
The primary reason carriers favor Huawei's 100G solution is the use of industry-leading SD-FEC/HD-FEC 100G and OTN technologies. Huawei started the R&D of 100G core algorithms and optical modules in 2006, and through constant dedication to innovation, has managed to surmount complex technical challenges, including bit errors in submarine and aerial fiber transmission and transient service interruptions caused by equipment deterioration in high temperatures. Huawei is also forward-looking in the OTN field. The OTN device Huawei launched in 2008 has a capacity of higher than 6T, which remains the industry's largest capacity to date.

To help customers optimize their overall technical architecture and adopt next generation transport networks, Huawei conducted the world's first pan-European 400G field trial and unveiled a brand-new series of achievements in 2012, including a 10 petabit all-optical switch prototype (PPXC), a flexible-grid WDM prototype with the industry's highest spectrum efficiency, and a 2T WDM prototype. According to Ovum, Huawei ranks no. 1 in the WDM/OTN, 40G, 100G, and global optical network markets, as of Q2 2012.
